Getting here

Address: Furustien 7, 6300 Åndalsnes, a few minutes from the town centre.

By car: follow the E136 to Åndalsnes. The last 30 metres are a steep private gravel road; the rest is a normal asphalt road. You park by the house.

By train: take the scenic Rauma Line (Vy) via Dombås to Åndalsnes station, then a taxi (Rauma Taxi) or the local bus (Frammr).

Closest airports: Molde (about 1 hour by car), Ålesund (about 2 hours) or Oslo (about 6 hours by car or train).

Check-in & check-out

Check-in from 15:00. Arrival is fully self-service: the keys are in a key box by the storage house, and the code and directions are sent to you before arrival.

Check-out by 11:00, when our cleaners arrive. Before leaving, please put used sheets and towels in the bathroom, vacuum, wipe the kitchen surfaces, empty the fridge, start the dishwasher and sort your trash.

Parking & winter access

Free parking right by the house, in the marked spots only (a map is sent before arrival). In snowy conditions the steep gravel road can be tricky, so use the lower parking lot instead. A neighbour clears the snow with a tractor.

There is no EV charger on site, but there is a Supercharger in Åndalsnes.

What is included

Beds made up and fresh towels ready on arrival, plus extra bedding. Toilet paper, shampoo, soap, dishwasher tablets and cleaning supplies.

A fully equipped kitchen, French press, washer-dryer, drying room for wet gear, WiFi, a fireplace with firewood for a fire or two, board games, books, a yoga mat and local topo maps and guidebooks.

What to pack

There is no bad weather, only bad clothing. Bring layers, a good rain jacket and sturdy shoes, plus microspikes from November to April as trails get icy. A headlamp, a swimsuit for the river or the sauna.

Coffee lovers: there is no grinder, so bring ground coffee. Bike and ski rentals are limited nearby, so bring your own gear if you can.

Shops & services

Åndalsnes town centre is just a few minutes away by car. Groceries: Extra (Strandgata 1, in the centre), Kiwi and Rema 1000 (Øran). Good to know: supermarkets in Norway are closed on Sundays and national bank holidays, so plan ahead.

For coffee and cinnamon buns, go to Sødahlhuset. The mountaineering museum, climbing gym and via ferrata gear rental are at Norsk Tindesenter. There is also a Supercharger in town.

Things to do

Hike Blåhammeren straight from the door, climb Nesaksla (on foot or by gondola), ride or drive up Trollstigen, and enjoy the view of Trollveggen from Litlefjellet. Swim in the river at Sogge bru, relax in the sauna at Åndalsnes camping or sogge camping), and look for the northern lights in winter.

Romsdalen is also a paradise for ski touring (best in March and April), climbing, ice climbing, fishing and kayaking. Day trips to Ålesund, Geiranger or the Atlantic Road. A full guide with maps and tips is waiting for you in the house, and Paul offers guided trips and fly fishing courses if booked ahead.

House rules

The Crux is a private home, shared with care. No shoes, ski boots or dirty gear inside: use the drying room by the entrance. The house is built of soft pine, so wipe up any water and always use a cutting board. Sort your trash, park only in the marked spots and respect the neighbours. Please report any damage. See the full house rules page for details.

Good to know

Underfloor heating in every room and a cosy fireplace. There is no air conditioning (this is Norway), but on sunny days opening the windows creates a nice airflow, and the river below the house is perfect for a cold dip.

Romsdalen is a serious alpine environment with fast-changing weather. Check the forecast and the avalanche warnings (Varsom), use ut.no for routes and download the 113 emergency app before heading out. In an emergency, call 113.
